The Stratus is not only effective but also easy to set up. It comes in kit form and can be assembled in minutes with a simple screwdriver. The kit includes a 2-inch thick, 24 x 48-inch acoustic panel made from high density 6lb per cubic foot (96 kg/m3) glass wool and suspension hardware. The glass wool is encapsulated with micromesh and the edges are resin treated to keep the fibres in place. The panel is covered in an acoustically transparent fabric for a sleek look.
The suspension hardware consists of two light-weight aluminum rails and 'L' brackets that form a sturdy frame around the panel. Hanging the Stratus is a breeze - just attach the included suspension wire to the frame. Sheet-rock ceiling hardware and fasteners are included.
The Stratus absorbs sound energy by converting it to heat. Airborne sound vibrations penetrate the panel, making the glass fibres vibrate and generate heat, effectively absorbing directional sound energy and preventing reflections.
On its own, the 2-inch thick glass wool panel is 100% effective for frequencies between 400Hz and 20kHz (check the acoustic absorption chart). To control a wider frequency spectrum, angle the Stratus to vary the air space between it and the ceiling, allowing the backing surface to absorb ceiling reflections.
